Force screen rotation or notify user

I am building an app with images, some of which are 9:16 aspect ratio and some are 16:9, thus depending on the different images, they are best seen either on portrait or landscape mode. The question is will it be better if the screen automatically changes orientation depending on the image a user clicks on, or if they should be notified that the image is best seen in the particular orientation and give him a button to do so, if he wishes. All of this is from a UX point of view.
Thanks in advance
