POSH chief Gary Johnson reckons the club have pulled off a transfer coup by landing top non-league talent Lee Tomlin.
The 21 year-old Rushden & Diamonds forward completed a move to London Road late yesterday for an undisclosed fee. Reports in Northamptonshire suggest the Nene Park club were seeking a fee in the region of £250,000 after turning down a six-figure offer from Blue Sqaure Bet big spenders Crawley this summer.
Johnson said: “I see Lee as a player who will undoubtedly improve our squad - and I believe we have pulled off something of a coup to get him here because he is a sought-after player.
“I am delighted to have him on board and we can now find out where he is at fitness-wise, but I am sure he will be raring to go as Rushden have a good regime down at their place.”
Johnson was last night undecided whether Tomlin would be involved in the club’s League One curtain-raiser against Bristol Rovers at London Road this afternoon.
Tomlin, who is Rushden’s youngest-ever player and league goalscorer, has already set his sights on becoming the next non-league success story at London Road.
He said: “This is a great opportunity and I’m looking forward to the challenge. Quite a few Peterborough players have come out of non-league and gone on to be very sucessful, so there are plenty of people to look up to.
“I like to run at defenders, create things and score goals. Since Justin Edinburgh took over at Rushden I have been able to play with a bit of freedom and hopefully that can continue here.”
Posh also signed goalkeeper Steve Collis on a one-month deal yesterday after a successful summer trial.
It is the second time that free agent Collis (29) has been signed by Posh boss Johnson this year.
He took him to former club Bristol City in January and was also Collis’ manager at Yeovil earlier in his career.
Collis said: “I have worked with Gary before so he knows what I can do - and when the opportunity to come here arose, it was one I desperately wanted to take.
“I didn’t come in until halfway through pre-season, so I’m playing catch up. But it is just a case of continuing to work hard and seeing what happens at the end of the month.”

Collis has made just over 100 appearances in first-team football during a career spanning 11 years.
ONE man heading out of London Road yesterday was left-back Scott Griffiths. The 24 year-old has joined League Two outfit Chesterfield on a one-month loan deal.
POSH have pulled their reserve team out of the Totesport Combination League.
The smaller size of the club’s playing squad is the reason behind the decision. Posh plan to organise reserve friendlies as and when necessary.
