Odoo - TypeError: coercing to Unicode:

I am using Odoo 10. I am trying to update the unit price of a product.

@api.onchange('sqmeter_price')
def _onchange_sqmeter_price(self):

self.sqyard_price = (self.sqmeter_price) /1.196
self.list_price = (self.sqyards_per_box) + (self.sqmeter_price)

This code here self.list_price = (self.sqyards_per_box) + (self.sqmeter_price) gives the below error

TypeError: coercing to Unicode: need string or buffer, float found

This code works and are both float fields self.sqyard_price = (self.sqmeter_price) /1.196

list_price is also a float field but has a Widget:monetary. This is the only difference between both working and not working.

  • I wager self.sqyards_per_box is a string. How it got to be a string is the question.
