The Saint-Serge Campus
The University of Angers (French: Université d'Angers) is an institution of higher education in the town of Angers in western France.
It began as the School of Angers in the 11th Century and became a university in 1337.
In 1432, the Faculties of Medicine, Arts, and Theology were added to the Faculty of Law.
The university was closed in 1793 during the French Revolution and was reestablished in 1971.[1]
The pre-revolutionary institution is sometimes looked upon as the precedent institution of the Catholic University of the West, though, as both popes and kings have granted charters to the old University of Angers, it is not a clear predecessor to either of the current Universities in Angers.
