We are trying to setup sub applications so we can use the same URL/subsite. Each sub site is an independent application.

Example of setup:

  • website.com (is blank with no web.config)

  • website.com/subapplication1 (is an independent .net site with its own web.config)

  • website.com/subapplication2 (is an independent .net site with its own web.config)

  • website.com/subapplicstion3 (is an independent .net site with its own web.config)

When we load a sub application eg. website.com/subapplication1 we receive the below error containing a duplicate folder path:

Directory
'D:applicationswebsitesubapplication1subapplication1styles' does
not exist. Failed to start monitoring file changes.

The directory D:applicationswebsitesubapplication1styles does exist but the referred path D:applicationswebsitesubapplication1subapplication1styles does not exist and it is not referenced in web.config or in the IIS path settings.

However when we recreate the sites as top level applications rather than a sub site they work fine. The error occurrs only with subsites. I considered inheritance but there is no web.config in the parent site.

The problem seems to be a sub application issues but I just can’t figure it out.

Can anyone help?
