fd1.seek(0, 2) not locate to the EOF

0

I am learning 7. Input and Output — Python 3.7.1 documentation

f.seek(offset, from_what).

with such a test, suppose a test with content

In [7]: !cat test
The first line.

I open it in terminal one

In [9]: fd1 = open('test', 'w')

In [10]: fd1.seek(0, 2) #go to the end
Out[10]: 0

Then write into it.

In [18]: fd1.write("This is the second line from terminal 1")
Out[18]: 39
In [19]: fd1.flush()
In [24]: !cat test
This is the second line from terminal 1

The original text are overwritten.

fd1.seek(0, 2) does not work, what' the problem?

  • From the docs about the mode: "'w' open for writing, truncating the file first" (emphasis mine).
