PUT files in subfolders within an S3 bucket with AWS API Gateway

0

I am trying to create a subfolder within an S3 bucket to upload a file.
I want the folder structure to be something like {bucket}{folder/file}, so that in S3 console I can see the folders.

I have created a resource in API GW of the form {folder}{item} and mapped to {bucket}{object}

My first approach was to call the endpoint with an {item} = myFolderInS3/myFile, but this was rejected by API GW.

Then I escaped the / with %2F, and this worked without Authorization. But when I enable the Authorizer, the lambda throws and exception within the policy creation due to a regular expression that only allows ^[/.a-zA-Z0-9-*]+$ in event['path']

Should I decode the URL before calling the Authorizer or add a child resource in API GW and map somehow the {item} and {child item} to the {object} in S3?
