Demographics


According to the 2001 Census,[2] Mukandpur has a population of 3,785. Neighbouring villages include Jagatpur, Prozepur, Talwandi Phattu, Jhingran, Gunachaur, Shokar and Raipur Dabba, Hakimpur



Shopping


The village has expanded to include a shopping area near bus stand which serves the local villages.

Amardeep Singh Shergill Memorial College Mukandpur


The college is approved to get grants under section 2(F) and 12(B) from the U.G.C. The management did well to create an infrastructure of highest standards. The three story main building of the college encompasses all the facilities necessary for imparting modern education. It houses a two story library, which has more than 29000 books on its open shelves. 15 Newspapers and 40 magazines, journals and periodicals adorn its stands. The library has an E-Book section also. The students can view the educational C.D‟s in the library. Our students have access to 51000 e-books and 2100 e- journals through Inflibnet. Dedicated internet connectivity and Photostat machine is also available in the library. The college have well equipped Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Botany, Zoology, Home Science, Child Care, Music, English, Dress Designing and Automobile Maintenance labs. There is a separate Computer Sci. & and I.T Block, which has six state of the art Computer Labs with 150 computers & Internet service of 6 Mbit/s(1:1). There is a separate Seminar Hall with a seating capacity of 170 persons. Gymnasium with its latest imported machines is a cynosure of all the eyes. Darshan Gill Sports Complex has a track of four hundred meter and playgrounds for Football, Volleyball. A Multi-purpose Hall for indoor games and other gatherings. Close circuit cameras and public address systems have been installed in the college.


The college offers Six P.G. courses namely M.C.A (Three Year Course), M.B.A(Two Year Course), M.Sc.(I.T.), M.A(Economics), M.Com and M.A.(Punjabi) . The College also offers B.A., B.C.A., B. Com(Regular),and B.Sc. courses in Medical, Non-Medical, fashion designing, Computer Science and Economics. Vocational subjects like Functional English, Computer Applications and Early Childhood Care & Education are offered at degree level. A student can get additional qualification by opting Add-On Courses i.e. Data Care & Management (I.T.), Early Childhood Care and Education, Automobile Maintenance and Insurance & Risk Management. In addition there are P.G. Diplomas in Computer Applications, P.G. Diplomas in Web designing, P.G. Diplomas in Financial Services (Banking & Insurance) and Certificate Course in Dress Designing, Cutting and Tailoring is conducted under the aegis of department of Life Long Learning of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. The students of this college have won top positions in the university in M.C.A., M. B. A. and M. Sc. (I.T.) consistently since their inception in the college.


Popular Punjabi singer Geeta Zaildar obtained his formal music education from Ustad Janab Shamshad Ali, a Music Professor of Amardeep Shergill Memorial College Mukandpur.[3]



Amardeep Mela


The "Amardeep Mela" is organised annually by the Amardeep Singh Shergill Memorial College, Mukandpur. An annual feature of the College since its inception, the Mela lasts for four days.[4]



Chaunkian da Mela


A famous fair known as "Chaunkian da Mela" is held in Mukandpur.[5] A faqir named Sakhi Sarwar (Lakh Data) came to Balachaur. He started his journey from Rattewal and reached Mukandpur. He stayed here for nine days. Since then this fair is held in Mukandpur and lasts for nine days. A "Saang" starts from Rattewal and reaches Mukandpur. The leader of the "Saang" holds a flag which is called a "Togh".
