Android Gradle clean missing

I constantly get the R error in my course, this is a really frustrating experience with how often it happens. I can normally solve the R error by expanding the Gradle tab and running clean and then rebuilding the project. The clean feature in gradle no longer appears in any of my class projects and this R error now exists in all of them. Are there any suggestions on how to get it back or what else I can do to solve the R error

Do you mean that the clean build option is gone in your Android Studio?

Not sure if it was called clean build. When I click on the gradle tab on the right-hand side it there would normally be an option in the drop-down list called clean. My understanding was this clean is different than the project clean you find in Build menu.
