Can I replace ASP.net dropdownlist with a HTML5 data list and keep the same data source

0

I have an older application that uses ASP.net and it currently has a lot of drop down lists to filter data. Is there a way I can update those DropDownLists and replace them with a more current HTML5 datalist that may be more helpful to users?

Old Code:

<asp:DropDownList ID="ddlCourse" runat="server" CssClass="Program-Drop-
Down-Style text" AutoPostBack="True" DataSourceID="SqlCourse"
DataTextField="COURSE_NAME"
OnSelectedIndexChanged="ddlCourse_SelectedIndexChanged"
OnDataBound="ddlCourse_DataBound">
</asp:DropDownList>

Replace with something like this:

<datalist id="dlCourse" runat="server">
--Populate options with values from data source
</datalist>

  • yes, there are a few ways you can accomplish this. But your server side functions ddlCourse_SelectedIndexChanged and ddlCourse_DataBound will not be useful anymore and you would have to rewrite them in some fashion.
