Build order, generating documents and msdeploy in build-definitions

0

I have a ASP.Net web application, lets called it MsWEB. This has a public accessible REST-api that is documented with XML-comments for each class and method.

I am using SandCastle to generate documentation for the MsWEB-project. This project is dependent on the MsWEB project because it needs the "compiled" version to extract the documentation. The post-build step in the SandCastle project it copies the files to the MsWEB/Docs folder to be bundled together in the publish step.

The MsWEB has a publish profile (FolderWEB) that publish it to a UNC path as files.

I have a build-definition that gets the solution from TeamSystem, builds it with the parameters:

/p:DeployOnBuild=true;PublishProfile=FolderWEB

This builds and deploys the MsWEB to the UNC path.

The problem is that the msdeploy is called as soon the MsWEB project is finished building, which means that the SandCastle is not build thus resulting in no documentation in MsWEB/docs.

How do you delay the msdeploy step to the end of the build?

I cannot set the MsWEB dependent of the SandCastle project because it will result in a circular dependency.

I have toyed with the idea to create a MsWEB_Core project that contains all the implementation and MsWEB just is a thin layer but that is plain ugly hack-around to create documentation.

Thank you in advance.
