KRKC-FM (102.1 FM, "KC 102") is a radio station licensed to King City, California in the Monterey, California radio market. It is owned by King City Communications Corporation. The Monterey/Salinas/Santa Cruz market includes all of Monterey County and Santa Cruz County.
History and overview[edit]
KRKC FM/AM has been owned by King City Communications Corporation since 1982. KC102 plays current Hot AC rock music and a mix of classic hits from the past 25 years. KC102 also covers Northern San Luis Obispo County the Big Sur region and other portions of the Central Coast of California.
Monterey is Nielsen Rated Market #85. The 85th largest metro area in the United States. The 12+ population is estimated at 605,000. The overall population of the Monterey-Salinas-Santa Cruz Market is 725,000 The transmitter for KC102 is located at Williams Hill, California KC102 is at 102.1 on the FM dial. It is an FCC authorized Class B 50,000 watt signal. KC102 features a Hot AC format. The KC102 on air slogan is "Caution May Contain Awesome..." Its sister station KRKC is at 1490AM and 104.9 FM. Its on-air slogan is "KRKC Country".
Notable personalities[edit]
The main DJ personality on KC102 is Michael Davis (28 years) in afternoon drive. Long time General Manager William Gittler semi-retired in 2012. Gittler served as GM for 30 years and is still involved with ownership of the three station group, 102.1, 104.9 and 1490 AM. Michael Davis is a former Music Director and on air DJ personality at rock station KNAC/Los Angeles and was also Music Director/DJ at KFMG/Albuquerque. Michael Davis is a 36-year broadcast professional. 21 year station vet Jim Barker retired in Feb 2016. Other DJs on KC102 include Venetia, Chuck D, Charlee Batista and late nights with Kendall. KC102 news updates are handled by KC102/KRKC News Director Darren Nutt. Former KSBW-TV/Monterey (NBC) weather personality Jim Vanderzwaan provides forecast updates. Friday nights at 5PM (during football season) is the NFL predictions feature with Michael Davis and Lola Berlin. That show, with Davis and Berlin has completed its 13th season on KC102 as of February 2019. Lola Berlin has become a regular year round cast member with Michael Davis on the 5PM-7PM show. Other frequent guests include other KC102 personalities Jen, Laura Gomez and Daniela "DJD" Martinez. KC102 is an affiliate of the Oakland Raiders via Compass Media Networks
