Fork vs Cluster — Which allows parent/child to pass data by reference?

I'm a bit confused about the difference between clusters and child processes.

From what I gathered, clusters are used for CPU-related perks; but it seems that they support passing objects to the processes? I'm currently using spawn/fork, which only supports passing strings.

Use case
— I need to be able to create a child process and pass an object to it by reference (i.e, no stringification).

Is this possible?
