Table for IRC channels[edit]

Now we need a table for common IRC channels per Network.
I'm Starting WikiProjectChat or something like that. Stay tuned Quinobi 18:36, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Are there any requirements to be included here?[edit]

If there's already an article on a IRC network, is that enough to allow it to be included in this network?

I don't use GamesNET personally, or any other IRC network for that matter, but came over it during some category cleanup. I'll add it here, but it makes no difference for me if it's decided it shouldn't belong here. Delta Tango • Talk 14:33, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Ordering[edit]

I changed the ordering of the top list to reflect the networks with user bases over 10k with wiki pages. TunkeyMicket 00:07, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

I didn't spot your edit until after I was finished sorting it and rewriting it, but admittedly your edit makes sense. However, it did not in the way it was previously implemented. It'd be useful if it were labeled by more than an HTML comment. MrZaiustalk 00:14, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
Also note that many of the other IRC networks were over 10k users, including a number of regional networks that will shortly be added. Might make more sense to break 'em up by "regional" "general" "open source projects" etc, or just regional & general if it's too hard to label certain networks as one type or the other, like SlashNet. MrZaiustalk 02:39, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Beirut and other new pages[edit]

you should add Beirut_IRC which is the largest/unique Middle Eastern network (not including bots or warez).

It was added, but then removed after the page was deleted. Feel free to attempt to recreate the page with clear assertions of notability and reliable sources - Then it'll stick.

On a related note, there's a bunch of pages in Category:Internet Relay Chat networks that aren't listed here - Do any of them warrant a link from the template? A vast majority of them lack references or a clear case for note, as do several of the pages linked here. A massive cat-wide cleanup seems in order, if anyone's interested in helping. MrZaiustalk 21:20, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

AtlantisIRC[edit]

I do not think "AtlantisIRC" should be included in a template because the template is not just to link to every IRC network out there, only the ones that have articles. If and/or when there is an article about it, the article should be linked to, not a link to the home page about the network. I have removed it. User:Iambus | talk 04:27, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Sub templates cause caching problems[edit]

Even after deleting a link from the main template, and purging it, as well as the sub-templates, WikiMedia still thinks there's a link to every sub-template. I'm not sure what's causing it, but sux badly if you want to find out what links to an IRC-related article in text. Pcap ping 20:59, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

It isn't subtemplates, that's normal behaviour due to the job queue (and the squid cache MediaWiki uses). The database lag we've been experiencing the last few days and the job queue slowness are most likely directly related. Purging the template itself won't do anything-- you have to purge each page where the template is transcluded (or wait for the job queue to catch up, which is best since mass-purges only slow the site down more). --Tothwolf (talk) 22:29, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
Well, I cheated by unlinking it from everywhere with Twinkle. That way I got a list of articles in my contributions. The article was P10 (protocol), and it was only linked from a dab page actually. Rolled back afterward. Pcap ping 23:05, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
Eh, thats works too I suppose ;) If you are interested, I can probably work up a list of some other stuff that needs merging. --Tothwolf (talk) 23:52, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
